I am very ignorant about PDAs and POCKET PCs and would like some ideas/advice. I want a small computer type device that will run Excel, Access (or some form of a database), and compiled Visual Basic programs. Surfing the web is not a concern with this device and I have a cell phone for telephone type of communication. In pocket pc's I've been considering HP iPAQ hx2495 and HP iPAQ hx2795 with the Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC, Premium Edition OS. I haven't been able to determine much about the capabilities of the Palm OS. The big question is...will a non pocket pc, a true PDA running under the Palm OS, do what I'm looking for or do I need to stick with the Windows Mobile premium compatable machines? If this sounds like a confusing or silly question remember, I said I was ignorant about the subject.
stick with a windows based machine i have tried both [avid hand held fan] and would never stray from the windows version again i sold the palm 2 days after buying it lost a lot of cash but not as much as if i had thrown it against the was as i was tempted to do on several occasions - its a very limited o/s

the dell is a good bit of kit i have the axim x51v which has the higher resolution vga screen as opposed to the more usual qvga screens of lesser machines unfortunately i think dell has now bowed out of the pda market a real shame!

is it in .avi format?
if it is,then that's because of the 2gb file size limit of .avi files in windows.the windows os has this limit on .avi files and 4gb on files in general ,if you use the FAT32 system.that is why NTFS is better.
you will need programs that can handle video files this big or you have to segment your video into smaller parts.
but both solutions require a program to open the big file.
do a google search on these programs:

without changing the framerate 30fps(NTSC) or 25fps(PAL) and the resolution,convert the file into a smaller one using compression,ie,to .mpeg,if you don't want to cut it into smaller parts(which you can join later)so as not to lose too much quality on the video,because you are still going to convert it to another format your cellphone will play,like the .3gp format or .mp4.
video fromat conversion or video manipulation and editing in general tend to diminish the quality of the video.
and you are going to convert that video file twice.do the resolution change between the .mpeg to .3gp conversion,instead of between .avi to .mpeg conversion.
but you you still will need a third party video converter for windows.the best format is .3gp which most cellphones on the market today are able to play.the .mp4 is the format used mainly by iPods and some smartphones.
